Suez: The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) reported the successful transit of the giant container ship CMA CGM SAINT GERMAIN through the canal on Friday. This vessel, among the largest in the world, completed its maiden voyage via the canal under the supervision of SCA Chairman Osama Rabie.According to State Information Service Egypt, the vessel, operated by the French shipping line CMA CGM, was part of the northbound convoy journeying from Morocco to Malaysia. The CMA CGM SAINT GERMAIN boasts impressive dimensions: 399.9 meters in length, 61.3 meters in width, with a 16-meter draft and a total tonnage of 238,000 tons. Its capacity reaches up to 23,876 TEUs, and it is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), featuring an 18,600-cubic-meter fuel tank that supports long-haul voyages between Europe and Asia.The vessel is part of the NEU5/FAL3 service, managed by the Ocean Alliance, facilitating trade between the Far East and Northwest Europe. Chairman Rabie emphasized that the SCA took all necessary precautions to ensure the vessel's safe passage through the canal.Rabie further highlighted that the continuous transit of such large container ships is a positive indicator of the gradual re-engagement of major shipping lines with the canal. He assured that the Suez Canal is fully equipped to handle the world's largest and most advanced vessels, maintaining its crucial role in global trade and the sustainability of supply chains.Additionally, Rabie noted that the SCA is committed to enhancing its maritime services, which now include marine salvage, ship maintenance and repair, marine ambulance services, bunkering, and crew change services. These enhancements aim to boost the Suez Canal's competitiveness and reaffirm its status as one of the world's foremost trade routes.
