New Ultra-High Voltage Power Stations to Advance Egypt’s 1.5 Million Feddan Project

Cairo: In a new step to support land reclamation efforts under the 1.5 Million Feddan Project and to advance sustainable development across its various regions, the New Egyptian Countryside Development Company announced the launch of a major project to establish ultra-high and high-voltage power stations, along with the required feeder lines.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the project is being implemented in coordination and cooperation with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, affiliated with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and with the support of Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. A cooperation and consultancy contract has been signed with one of the leading specialized consultancy firms in the field of ultra-high voltage stations-Egyptian Electrical Power Systems Engineering Company. The agreement aims to review technical designs and supervise tendering and implementation works for supplying electricity to the 'New Egyptian Countryside' lands in the West Minya Plain area.

The project targets the extension of electricity supply to the lands of the New Egyptian Countryside Development Company and the national 1.5 Million Feddan Project in the West Minya Plain, covering an area of nearly one million feddans. Implementation will take place in two phases:

- Phase One will deliver a capacity of 100 MVA, covering three areas: Southwest West Minya, the West Minya Extension, and West Manfalout and Al-Qusiya.

- Phase Two will cover three additional areas: Darb Al-Bahnasawi, West Minya, and Northwest West Minya.

Upon completion of all phases, total capacity is expected to reach approximately 500 MVA, fully covering the lands of the 1.5 Million Feddan Project in the West Minya Plain.

Major General Amr Abdel Wahab, Chairman of the New Egyptian Countryside Development Company, emphasized that this cooperation represents a significant step in advancing agricultural development within the national project areas. He noted that electricity provision is not merely a component of infrastructure preparation, but a pivotal element in enabling modern agriculture, supporting investors, and creating an integrated environment for agricultural and food production.

'We are implementing this project in cooperation with the consultancy entity and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, within the framework of a national partnership aimed at accelerating development and achieving food security by supporting farmers and providing lands with the necessary infrastructure,' said Maj. Gen. Abdel Wahab.

Abdel Wahab stressed that electrification efforts in the West Minya Plain are part of a comprehensive infrastructure plan, which also includes road development and paving, the establishment of telecommunications networks, and future plans for renewable energy stations.

'This project will directly enhance agricultural productivity, encourage investors to inject capital into lands that are now fully equipped with essential services, create job opportunities for Upper Egypt's youth, and ensure a fair redistribution of development in line with Egypt's Vision 2030,' he added.

Abdel Wahab explained that all project phases are being implemented according to the highest international technical standards, under the supervision of the consultancy firm. He affirmed that integration between public and private sector entities ensures optimal results within set timelines and reflects a successful model of cooperation among specialized institutions and state bodies in executing major national projects.
