Health Ministry Launches Campaign to Aid Recovering Addicts During Holidays

Cairo: The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the launch of the "Celebrate without it" anti-drug awareness campaign for the eighth consecutive year. This initiative, unveiled on Saturday, 3/1/2026, aligns with New Year celebrations and aims to help former drug users avoid relapse by encouraging them to enjoy holidays away from environments or activities associated with drug use. This effort is part of a broader strategy to support the sustainability of their recovery.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment (GSMHAT) has organized a variety of activities across several governorates. These activities encompass leisure, cultural, artistic, sports, and religious events. The Ministry of Health and Population Spokesman, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, stated that these initiatives include hosting recovering individuals for a full day of recreation within hospitals, creating a safe environment that fosters positive recovery concepts.

The campaign also aims to nurture a spirit of participation and mutual support among recovering individuals. The activities culminated in a ceremony honoring several former drug users for their dedication to treatment programs, as well as recognizing the efforts of therapeutic teams.

Ayman Abbas, Head of GSMHAT, emphasized that the campaign provides a supportive atmosphere that allows individuals in recovery to enjoy holidays without turning to substance use, thereby improving their ability to handle related pressures.
