Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty addressed on Sunday, February 15, 2026, a session held by the African Union under the title of 'African Union Membership in the G20,' outlining ways to maximize the continent's benefits from its membership and strengthen Africa's presence in the global economic governance architecture.According to State Information Service Egypt, the top diplomat congratulated South Africa on its presidency of the G20, underscoring the importance of leveraging the African Union's membership in the group to advance the continent's priorities, especially reforming the global financial system, enhancing the policies and practices of multilateral development banks, strengthening innovative financing mechanisms, optimizing the use of existing instruments, and identifying effective and sustainable solutions to the sovereign debt crisis.He underlined the need to periodically update the African Union's priorities within the G20 f ramework, deepen the engagement of African states in shaping those priorities, and establish clear mechanisms to monitor participation to ensure maximum benefit for the peoples of the continent.He stressed that the African Union's membership in the G20 represents a strategic opportunity to amplify Africa's voice on global economic issues, calling for close African coordination and unified positions within the group to bolster the continent's influence in international decision-making and to advance its aspirations for development, stability and prosperity.
