FM Lauds Strengthened Ties Between Egypt and Ghana

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised on Thursday the strengthened relations between Egypt and Ghana. During a meeting with Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Abdelatty emphasized the significance of continuous consultations between the foreign ministries of both nations, in line with a memorandum of understanding to establish a mechanism for political consultations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted the growth in trade between the two countries, which increased from 177 million dollars in 2021 to 240 million dollars in 2023. He commended the involvement of Egyptian companies in Ghana, particularly in the construction and power generation sectors.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed a keen interest in bolstering cooperation in critical areas such as counterterrorism, maritime security, border protection, and healthcare. He acknowledged Ghana's positive role in addressing crises in the West Africa region and discussed the security challenges faced by Africa, particularly in the Lake Chad Basin and the Sahel region, which necessitate enhanced African solidarity against armed and terrorist groups.

Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's comprehensive and sustainable national counterterrorism strategy, which integrates security measures with ideological and developmental approaches. He stressed the importance of utilizing programs offered by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) to counter extremist ideologies and promote peacebuilding.

He reiterated Egypt's unwavering commitment to supporting African partners in tackling terrorism and other regional challenges.
