Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks on Friday with Spain's Foreign Minister Jos© Manuel Albares on the sidelines of the 10th Union for the Mediterranean Regional Forum as part of ongoing consultations to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional developments. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the trajectory of Egypt-Spain relations, which witnessed a qualitative leap after being elevated to a strategic partnership during President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Madrid in February 2025.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty stressed Egypt's desire to maintain the momentum of high-level bilateral visits in the coming period, and the importance of building on the outcome of the reciprocal presidential and royal visits held this year to broaden the scope of cooperation under the strategic partnership. Abdelatty welcomed the growing bilateral cooperation in the economic and investment fields, emphasizing the need to further expand it within the period ahead. He also underscored the importance of continuing to advance cooperation in tourism, culture, education, healthcare, and migration.
On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's appreciation for Spain's supportive positions on Palestinian rights, including its recognition of the State of Palestine in May 2024. He stressed the importance of fully implementing the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement, consolidating the ceasefire, advancing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on Gaza, deploying an international stabilization force in the Strip within a peacekeeping framework, and supporting reconstruction efforts. Abdelatty also expressed Egypt's hope of active Spanish participation in the international conference on Gaza reconstruction which Egypt will host.
