Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Friday took part in the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the foreign ministry said. Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf conveyed that Abdelatty emphasized the forum's role as a crucial regional platform to bolster cooperation across the Mediterranean through balanced partnerships.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted the significant challenges facing the region, including economic, environmental, and security issues, which necessitate increased collaborative efforts. He reiterated Egypt's stance on the necessity of collective initiatives to tackle these challenges and transform them into opportunities for development and stability.
The minister also addressed the Palestinian issue, labeling it as central to the regional tensions. He urged the international community to fulfill its duties in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and ensuring the unimpeded delivery of aid. Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to maintain a ceasefire in Gaza and its coordination with regional and international partners to support the implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement.
Furthermore, Abdelatty outlined progress in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and noted Egypt's continued involvement in UfM initiatives, including the regional transport action plan, which Cairo helped draft. He concluded by reaffirming Egypt's commitment to work with the UfM co-presidency and member states to advance political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation, aiming to build a safer and more prosperous future for the region.
