FM Engages with Somalia, Turkey, Djibouti Counterparts on Horn of Africa Developments

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received phone calls from Foreign Minister of Somalia Abdisalam Ali, Foreign Minister of Turkey Hakan Fidan, and Foreign Minister of Djibouti Abdul Kader Hussein Omar. The ministers discussed recent developments in the Horn of Africa, particularly concerning Israel's recognition of Somaliland.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers collectively condemned and rejected Israel's recognition of Somaliland. They expressed strong support for Somalia's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, opposing any unilateral actions that could jeopardize Somali sovereignty or destabilize the region. The ministers reiterated their backing for Somalia's legitimate state institutions and rejected any initiatives to establish parallel entities that conflict with the nation's unity.

The discussions highlighted that recognizing parts of a country's territory as independent could set a dangerous precedent, posing threats to international peace, security, and established principles of international law and the UN Charter. The foreign ministers emphasized that respecting the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states is crucial for international stability. They rejected any efforts to establish parallel entities that contradict international legitimacy and undermine peace, security, and development opportunities.

Furthermore, the ministers voiced their firm opposition to any plans to displace the Palestinian people from their land, aligning with the stance of the majority of countries worldwide.
