FM Engages in Dialogue with Lebanese PM on Lebanon-Israel Framework Agreement

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty made a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon, including recent progress on the framework agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel on June 26, with U.S. sponsorship.According to State Information Service Egypt, during the call, which took place on Friday, June 26, 2026, Salam briefed Abdelatty on the details of the framework agreement. The Egyptian Foreign Minister welcomed the step, describing the agreement as an important first step. He stressed the need for Israel's gradual withdrawal from the two areas that remain under Israeli occupation, paving the way for the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces and the extension of state authority across all Lebanese territory.Abdelatty underscored the importance of building on this development to achieve Israel's full withdrawal from southern Lebanon and to ensure the comprehensive, non-selective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. He also reaffirmed Egypt's full support for the Lebanese government and its policies aimed at restoring the state's sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, including the deployment of the Lebanese Army throughout the country and ensuring that all weapons remain under the exclusive authority of the state, thereby strengthening Lebanon's security and stability.The Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of continued cooperation to preserve national unity and consensus, enable the Lebanese state to confront current challenges, reinforce security and stability, and safeguard state institutions. For his part, Salam expressed his appreciation for Egypt's continued support for Lebanon, commending Cairo's steadfast backing of the Lebanese state and its institutions. He also affirmed Lebanon's commitment to maintaining close coordination and consultation with Egypt on issues of mutual interest.
