FM Discusses Regional Stability with U.S. Presidential Advisor

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdel Aaty held a phone call with Massad Boulos, the Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs and Senior Advisor for Africa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official spokesperson, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, reported that the conversation focused on recent developments in Libya, Sudan, and the Great Lakes region.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdel Aaty emphasized the importance of ensuring security and stability throughout Libya, maintaining its resources, and respecting its unity and territorial integrity. He highlighted the necessity of dismantling armed militias as a vital step towards restoring stability in the country. Addressing the Sudanese crisis, Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt's supportive stance, emphasizing the need to preserve Sudan's unity, stability, national institutions, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He underscored Egypt's commitment to positively engaging with regional and international efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Sudan.

The spokesperson further noted that the conversation also touched upon developments in the Great Lakes region. Abdel Aaty expressed appreciation for the U.S. efforts that facilitated the signing of a Declaration of Principles in Washington between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda. This agreement is intended to foster peace, stability, and economic development in eastern DRC. Abdel Aaty acknowledged this as a significant step toward a lasting peace agreement that would enhance regional stability in the Great Lakes region and across Africa. He remarked that these efforts align with President Trump's initiatives to promote peace and resolve conflicts in the Middle East and Africa through peaceful means.
