Cairo: Egypt condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting Abu Al-Duhur Military Airport in Idlib Governorate, Syria, describing them as a flagrant violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Egypt affirmed its complete rejection of Israel's continued violations of Syrian territory. The ministry warned that such attacks constitute a dangerous escalation that could undermine efforts to support stability in Syria and the region, and threaten regional security and peace.
Egypt stressed that this comes at a time when there is an urgent need to prioritize political solutions, de-escalate tensions, and create conditions conducive to restoring security and stability in Syria. Additionally, the preservation of the Syrian state's national resources and capabilities was emphasized.
Furthermore, Egypt underscored the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in putting an end to Israel's repeated violations. It called for halting Israel's policy of imposing faits accomplis by force, in a manner that would help contain the successive cycles of escalation across the region.
