Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty and Busaidi praised the depth of the fraternal and historic ties between Egypt and Oman, highlighting the growing momentum in relations fueled by the strong connection between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman. They expressed their shared commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields to benefit both countries and their citizens.
The conversation addressed regional developments, focusing on the anticipated Iranian-Omani joint announcement regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Oman's efforts in this domain. The two ministers underscored the importance of maintaining security, safety, and freedom of navigation through the strait, viewing it as essential for easing tensions and facilitating a return to negotiations. Their objective is to reach a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that addresses multiple concerns and strengthens regional security and stability.
