Finance Minister Initiates More GEM Commemorative Coins Amid High Demand

Cairo: Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk has announced the issuance of additional commemorative coins for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) to cater to the escalating demand both domestically and internationally.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Chairman of the Treasury and Mint Authority, Gamal Hussein, emphasized the availability of a range of gold and silver commemorative coins. These coins highlight the key landmarks of the Grand Egyptian Museum, appealing to citizens and tourists. Sales commenced a few days ago at the Mint Authority outlet in Cairo, where the coins have been met with significant interest.

Gamal Hussein detailed the pricing for these coins. Gold coins are priced at 84,000 pounds for the one-pound denomination, 273,000 pounds for the five-pound denomination, 420,000 pounds for the ten-pound denomination, 472,500 pounds for the twenty-five-pound denomination, 498,750 pounds for the fifty-pound denomination, and 551,250 pounds for the one-hundred-pound denomination. Silver coins are priced at 2,580 pounds for one pound, 3,010 pounds for five pounds, 3,440 pounds for ten pounds, 4,042 pounds for twenty-five pounds, 4,300 pounds for fifty pounds, and 5,160 pounds for one hundred pounds.

Sherif Hazem, Adviser of the Finance Minister for Engineering Affairs, stated that there is ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to produce new commemorative editions featuring significant archaeological exhibits of the Grand Museum. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to revive and document Egyptian historical symbols. Hazem also mentioned plans to expand the sale of these commemorative coins online, aiming to reach a wider audience in response to the high demand, which underscores the global significance of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
