Egypt’s Strategic Vision Positions Africa at the Heart of Its Foreign Policy

Cairo: Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Chairman of the State Information Service, recently elaborated on Egypt's strategic vision and its pivotal role in supporting Africa's development and stability. In an exclusive interview with Zoom Africa News, he discussed the significant strides Egypt has made in strengthening its partnerships across the continent, driven by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's comprehensive approach to African relations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Youssef highlighted the unprecedented leap in Egyptian-African relations in recent years. He attributed this progress to President Sisi's vision, which has revitalized Egypt's historical connections with African nations, emphasizing mutual respect and shared interests. The ambassador noted that Egypt has regained its influence within Africa, underscoring the country's commitment to peace, security, and development across the continent.

The ambassador detailed President Sisi's strategic approach, which links Egypt's stability and growth to that of Africa. Key aspects of this vision include the inseparable connection between security and development, which Egypt operationalizes through initiatives such as the post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts within the African Union. Youssef emphasized Egypt's belief in "African solutions to African problems," promoting self-reliance and avoiding external interference.

Egypt's efforts in development diplomacy are exemplified by its contributions to major infrastructure and energy projects, including the Julius Nyerere Dam in Tanzania. The country also supports continental connectivity through projects like the Cairo-Cape Town road and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, aiming to boost intra-regional trade and achieve economic integration.

Youssef highlighted Egypt's commitment to human capital development, particularly through educational initiatives that empower African youth and women. Egypt's academic institutions, such as Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Cairo University, provide educational opportunities to build future African leaders. Additionally, Egypt sends experts and medical aid to African countries, showcasing its role as a development partner.
