FM Welcomes Trump’s Announcement on Cancelling Planned Military Strikes on Iran

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement on cancelling planned military strikes against Iran. During a phone call on Friday 12/6/2026 with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Abdelatty expressed hope that this opportunity would be seized to reach a final agreement addressing outstanding issues through dialogue and peaceful means, contributing to de-escalation and strengthening regional security and stability.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the phone call comes as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and Qatar regarding developments in the region. It also follows the recent visit by the Qatari prime minister and foreign minister to Cairo, which reflected the depth of bilateral ties and the two countries' commitment to maintaining close coordination on regional issues.

The two ministers reviewed the latest updates related to the Iranian crisis. The pair also tackled the security concerns of countries in the region, particularly the Gulf states. In this regard, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's rejection of any threat to the security or sovereignty of the Gulf countries, stressing that Gulf security is an integral part of Egyptian and Arab national security.
