Egyptian-French Cooperation in Heritage Preservation Sets Global Benchmark

Cairo: Egyptian Ambassador to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Tarek Dahroug emphasized that the collaboration between Egypt and France in safeguarding cultural heritage is an exemplary model of mutual respect and complementary expertise.According to State Information Service Egypt, Dahroug made these remarks during a ceremony organized by the Egyptian Embassy in Paris. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the conservation treatment of the mummy of King Ramses II in France, a project undertaken in partnership with the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). The ceremony was attended by a distinguished assembly of researchers, scientists, and Egyptologists.Dahroug highlighted that the historical effort to preserve the mummy of King Ramses II in France represents the enduring friendship between these two ancient nations. Both countries share a common belief in the importance of safeguarding humanity's cultural heritage as a universal legacy. He recalled that in 1976, when the mummy was threatened by fungal deterioration, the intervention of French scientists was crucial in its preservation, paving the way for further bilateral cooperation in heritage conservation, scientific research, and Egyptology.Half a century later, this partnership continues to exemplify the strong ties between Egypt and France. Dahroug also pointed to the success of the "Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs" exhibition in Paris in 2023. This exhibition featured the sarcophagus of King Ramses II, which was on an exceptional loan to France, the only country to receive such an honor. This gesture was a testament to Egypt's appreciation for the French scientists' contributions to conserving the royal mummy and acknowledged France's significant role in the history of Egyptology.
