Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty received a phone call Friday from Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, as part of regular consultations to strengthen strategic relations and exchange views on regional developments. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf stated that Abdelatty emphasized the deep, historical ties between Egypt and Greece, noting the qualitative leap in cooperation following the elevation of relations to a strategic partnership level. He expressed aspirations to further enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation and thanked Greece for its support of Egypt within European Union institutions.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the call addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Abdelatty stressed the necessity of concerted efforts to accelerate the implementation of the second phase of the US President's plan and provide full support to the National Committee for the Management of Gaza. He emphasized the importance of deploying an international stability force to ensure commitment to the ceasefire as a vital step toward early recovery and reconstruction efforts, while underlining the urgent need to increase the flow of humanitarian aid amid deteriorating conditions in the Strip.
Regarding regional developments, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm position supporting diplomatic efforts and its keenness to maintain the negotiation path between the United States and Iran to avoid regional escalation. He stressed the importance of resolving outstanding disputes regarding the Iranian nuclear file through negotiations rather than military solutions to safeguard regional and international security and stability. The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation within the framework of their strategic ties, affirming that diplomacy is the only path to prevent the region from sliding into further instability.
