Cairo: Egypt welcomed the announcement by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this historic step contributes to supporting and restoring Palestinian rights and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration on Monday, Egypt affirmed that this significant decision, along with similar decisions made by other countries in recent times, constitutes a pivotal step toward establishing a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
It also reflects growing international support for the Palestinian people and their just cause, as well as a clear rejection of the brutal Israeli policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the policy of starvation and the expansion of military operations in the Gaza Strip, which fuel hatred and contribute to the spread of extremism and instability in the region.
Egypt praised the recent international momentum toward recognizing the State of Palestine and emphasized that the time has come for the remaining countries that have yet to recognize the Palestinian state to take that step in support of humanity and justice.
Egypt also renewed its call on the international community to exert greater serious and effective efforts to end the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories and implement the two-state solution, in a way that puts an end to the decades-long suffering of the Palestinian people and ensures security and stability for all peoples of the region.
