Cairo: Egypt is taking significant steps toward establishing its first national center for health data science and artificial intelligence applications in medicine, as announced by Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA). This initiative is intended to enhance the development of a smart healthcare system by leveraging predictive analytics and data-driven medical decision-making.
According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Sobky made this announcement during his address at the International Economic Forum 'Russia - Islamic World: Kazan Forum 2026' held in Russia's Republic of Tatarstan. He highlighted Egypt's swift advancements in medical AI, which are supported by a robust digital infrastructure comprising over 6.5 million electronic health records, nearly 500 million archived radiology images, and hundreds of millions of e-prescriptions. This vast data repository is expected to facilitate the development of advanced AI algorithms aimed at predictive healthcare and automated diagnosis.
El-Sobky further explained that the EHA has been working over the past five years on an integrated AI-driven platform named the 'Healthcare Authority Brain.' This platform is designed to bolster medical and administrative operations and decision-making. The project is set to be unveiled as the inaugural product of the forthcoming national center. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is becoming a central component of Egypt's healthcare system, contributing to improved diagnosis, medical efficiency, and healthcare outcomes.
These remarks were delivered during a high-level session on artificial intelligence in medicine, which was part of the Kazan Forum. The session was attended by officials and experts from various countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and India.
