Cairo: Minister Plenipotentiary for Commercial Affairs, First Undersecretary of the Ministry, and Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) Abdelaziz El-Sherif, recently held a meeting with Mr. Dominic Goh, the Ambassador of Singapore to Egypt. This meeting is part of the preparations for a forthcoming visit to Singapore, which will include various Egyptian entities and private sector representatives before the end of the year.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting follows up on the outcomes of the visit by His Excellency Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of Singapore, to Egypt on September 21, 2025. During his visit, President Shanmugaratnam met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and participated in the Egyptian-Singaporean Business Forum. He also undertook several field visits to explore investment opportunities in Egypt.
Abdelaziz El-Sherif highlighted that the trade exchange between Egypt and Singapore in 2024 amounted to approximately $360 million. This includes Egyptian exports valued at $93 million, which is considered low compared to the export capacities of Egyptian companies, and imports from Singapore valued at $276 million. Moreover, Singaporean investments in Egypt reached about $132 million, with 140 companies operating in different sectors within the Egyptian market.
El-Sherif emphasized that current efforts aim to attract Singaporean investments in priority sectors for Egypt. These sectors include water desalination and treatment, pharmaceutical industries, new and renewable energy, textiles, information and communication technology, port and logistics management, and conductors and semiconductors, where Singaporean companies hold a competitive advantage.
The meeting also saw participation from key officials, including Commercial Plenipotentiary Minister Sayed Fouad, Director of Asian and Oceanian Countries Affairs at the ECS, Commercial Plenipotentiary Minister Alaa El-Baily, Director of the Investment Promotion Affairs Department, and Commercial Counsellor Ahmed Seif El-Nasr from the Asian and Oceanian Countries Affairs Department at the ECS.
