Abdel-Aty Receives Chadian Counterpart to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Cairo: Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received Mr. Abdallah Saber Fadoul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chad, on the sidelines of the meetings of the Joint Committee between Egypt and Chad, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on issues of common interest, on Sunday, 16 November, 2025.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdel-Aty praised the momentum in relations between the two countries and the mutual commitment to strengthening these relations and elevating them to broader horizons. He noted the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to work continuously to enhance relations with Chad in all fields, which was reflected in high-level visits, most notably the President's visit with a delegation of businessmen in December 2024, and the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport in February 2025 with a delegation of businessmen. This reflects Egypt's serious interest in advancing cooperation between the two countries in priority areas.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularly military cooperation in training and building the capacity of Chadian security forces. He praised the significant cooperation between the two countries in infrastructure projects in Chad, especially the Egypt-Libya-Chad road, and projects for road construction, maintenance, and recycling of materials used in existing roads. He stressed the Egyptian government's interest in increasing trade with Chad to achieve mutual benefits.

In a related context, Minister Abdel-Aty mentioned the ongoing preparations to send an Egyptian medical convoy specializing in ophthalmology in December 2025 to perform 500 surgeries in N'Djamena. He also noted the readiness to provide Egyptian medicines and medical supplies to Chad at competitive prices. He further emphasized the importance of completing the Alexandria University branch in N'Djamena and commencing operations as soon as possible to serve mutual interests.

The Foreign Minister also reviewed the training courses and capacity-building programs organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in the areas of security, expert deployment, border management and combating human trafficking, cross-border threats and countering terrorism and extremist ideology, disarmament and reintegration, and climate, peace and security.

The meeting included an exchange of views on key regional issues of common interest, foremost among them the situations in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa, and developments in Sudan. The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of a ceasefire and creating the conditions for launching a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan's unity, sovereignty and stability. He referred to the results of his recent visit to Sudan on November 11, calling for concerted regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and their national institutions.

Minister Abdel-Aty also affirmed the unity and sovereignty of Libya and the importance of supporting Libyan national efforts within the framework of the principle of purely Libyan ownership of the political settlement. He stressed the importance of supporting all efforts aimed at forming a unified government that would create the appropriate conditions for holding elections in Libya, and the importance of strengthening the role of legitimate Libyan institutions, particularly the House of Representatives, to fulfill all the necessary frameworks for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, in accordance with the agreed-upon terms of reference for resolving the Libyan crisis, including relevant Security Council resolutions.

Regarding water security, the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of cooperation in accordance with the rules of international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries, while emphasizing the rejection of unilateral actions that violate international law in the Eastern Nile Basin. He emphasized that Egypt will take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to protect its water security.
