Cairo: Four companies have successfully made discoveries in the Western Desert, yielding a total estimated production of over 5,200 barrels per day (bbl/d) of crude oil and condensates, alongside approximately 34 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas.
According to State Information Service Egypt, these discoveries align with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) strategy to increase production. The initiative aims to counteract the natural decline of older wells, reduce the import bill, and enhance domestic production to satisfy the requirements of consuming sectors.
Khalda Petroleum has reported two new gas discoveries. The first, North Opera-2, located in the Matrouh Development area, has been previously announced and tested, confirming production rates of 21.15 mmcf/d of natural gas, along with 3,274 bbl/d of condensate. Plans are in place to connect the well to production by mid-month.
In addition, Khalda Petroleum discovered West El Dabaa-2x in the West El Dabaa concession area. Testing revealed production rates of 4.15 mmcf/d of natural gas and 336 bbl/d of condensate. Efforts are underway to integrate the well into the production grid.
The General Petroleum Company (GPC) reported a new oil discovery, ‘GPD-1X,’ in the Sinan development area, with test results indicating a production rate of 625 bbl/d of oil. The well is already connected to production.
PetroFarah, in partnership with United Energy, achieved the SEMR D-3X discovery, with initial tests showing a production rate of 647 bbl/d of oil. The well is expected to be connected to production after the development lease is signed.
Agiba Petroleum Company drilled the Nada-NE-4 well, yielding positive appraisal results. It is projected to achieve a production rate of approximately 340 bbl/d of oil and 9 mmcf/d of natural gas.
