Cairo: Egypt and Chad have solidified their cultural ties by signing a framework agreement focusing on cooperation in traditional handicrafts. This significant development took place during the fourth session of the Egyptian-Chadian Joint Committee in N'Djamena, with Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture Abdel Aziz Konsowa and Chadian Minister of Tourism Development, Culture and Handicrafts Abakar Rozzi Teguil officiating the agreement.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the agreement emphasizes the enduring historical connections between the two nations and their commitment to fortifying cultural collaboration, exchanging knowledge, preserving heritage, and advancing creative industries. The assembly in the Chadian capital involved ministers of foreign affairs, transport, health, and higher education, along with senior officials and business representatives from both countries.
Konsowa highlighted that the agreement is a pivotal move towards creating a sustainable cultural alliance between Egypt and Chad. He noted that traditional handicrafts are not only a significant cultural heritage but also an economic asset and a creative industry that can drive development and create employment. Konsowa expressed his hopes for the agreement to evolve into actionable programs that enhance artisans' skills, promote cultural heritage, and strengthen the bonds between the two nations.
Under the framework, Egypt and Chad will collaborate in various domains, such as exchanging technical, scientific, and legislative expertise related to traditional handicrafts. They will identify and promote key handicraft sectors, improve artisans' skills, and share training and professional development experiences.
The agreement also includes plans to spotlight handicraft production units in both countries, develop cultural programs for artisans, facilitate participation in cultural and promotional events, and promote traditional crafts. Its aim is to establish an institutional mechanism for cooperation in traditional handicrafts, aiding in heritage preservation, skill development, and enhancing the sector's role in sustainable development.
This agreement underscores the Ministry of Culture's initiatives to expand cultural cooperation with African nations, strengthen partnerships in heritage and traditional crafts, support cultural identity, build artisans' capacities, and boost the role of creative industries in economic and social advancement.
