Alexandria: Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El Wazir has inaugurated the 15th edition of the International Transport and Logistics Conference, organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT).
According to State Information Service Egypt, Wazir expressed his pleasure at participating in the inauguration of this international event, which has established itself as a high-level platform for exchanging expertise, presenting strategic visions, and discussing the future of maritime transport and logistics amid global transformations. The conference is convened under the theme 'Smart and Resilient Logistics Corridors: Future Gateway to the Green Trade,' reflecting the challenges facing global supply chains.
The event emphasizes that the future of international trade now depends on efficient, flexible, and sustainable logistics corridors capable of adapting to crises and keeping pace with the transition toward a green economy. Recent years have highlighted the need for such corridors, which are based on digital transformation, integration of transport modes, and modern technological solutions to ensure trade flow continuity, risk and cost reduction, and minimized environmental impact.
Wazir stated that, following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to transform Egypt into a regional and global hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade, the ministry prioritizes developing the maritime transport and logistics system as a key economic driver and growth pillar. Transport corridors aim to link seaports on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal axis, dry ports, logistics zones, industrial and agricultural production areas, as well as railway networks and express highways, achieving true integration among transport modes and enhancing supply chain efficiency.
The ministry is implementing a comprehensive plan to establish 33 dry ports and logistics zones nationwide, serving industrial areas and ensuring their integration with associated transport modes.
The opening ceremony was attended by Jordanian Minister of Transport and current President of the General Assembly of AASTMT Dr. Nidal Mardini Al-Qatamin; Cyprus' Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis; Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie; Alexandria Governor Ahmed Khaled; Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone Walid Gamal El-Din; President of AASTMT Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar; and a host of maritime transport experts.
