Cairo: The Supreme Council of Antiquities has reported a 19% increase in the number of visits to museums and archaeological sites between July 2024 and March 2025, compared to the same period in the previous year. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, during a council board meeting held at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on reviewing strategies to enhance services for both Egyptian visitors and tourists at 15 archaeological sites across the nation. The goal is to improve the tourism and cultural experiences offered at these locations.
During the discussions, the minister emphasized the importance of assessing the needs of each site individually to ensure the provision of appropriate tourism services. Planned improvements include the installation of informational and interpretative signs and maps, upgrades to visitor centers and restrooms, and the addition of umbrellas and seating for visitor comfort. Recycling-designed waste bins will also be installed.
Brochures and leaflets providing information about these sites will be made available in both Arabic and English, aiming to cater to a broader audience.
In a bid to further promote cultural heritage, members of the antiquities council approved several significant decisions. Among them was the initiative to allow Egyptian museum visitors of all age groups free entry to open archaeological museums nationwide on May 18th, coinciding with International Museum Day.
