President El-Sisi Reviews Strategic Plans for Egypt’s Telecommunications Sector

Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with key officials including Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Amr Talaat to discuss the strategic pillars for advancing Egypt's telecommunications industry. The meeting focused on efforts to enhance the knowledge-based economy and improve the telecommunications infrastructure.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy highlighted that the meeting covered the recent launch of services such as 5G Mobile Services, which are set to enhance network quality and speeds. The introduction of WiFi Calling was also discussed, which has improved call quality in areas with weak or no coverage. Additionally, the opening of the NTRA's Radio Spectrum Monitoring Center was noted as a significant advancement in managing and monitoring the radio spectrum with cutting-edge wireless systems.

The President received updates on plans to continue developing mobile networks, internet coverage, and other services across all regions, including underserved areas. Dr. Amr Talaat emphasized the transformation of the telecommunications sector into a productive service sector that contributes to economic growth. The sector has shown high growth rates, maintaining a contribution to the GDP of approximately 6%.

The meeting also reviewed the status of digital infrastructure projects, such as replacing copper networks with fiber optic cables and expanding mobile tower construction to improve services. Dr. Talaat recognized the essential role of private sector companies in executing the sector's plans.

President El-Sisi underscored the importance of expanding the telecommunications industry and addressing challenges related to local manufacturing. He directed studies on developing data centers, cloud computing services, and expanding local manufacturing of telecommunications devices, along with supporting local products.
