PM Chairs First 2026 Cabinet Meeting, Emphasizes Telecom Manufacturing Localization

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired the first weekly cabinet meeting of 2026 at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The session concentrated on a strategic push for domestic manufacturing, particularly within the telecommunications sector, along with updates on regional diplomacy and national development projects.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouli began the session by extending his greetings to Coptic Christian citizens, both locally and internationally, on the occasion of Christmas. Reflecting on his recent meeting with Pope Tawadros II at St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, Madbouli highlighted the "national and social role" of the Orthodox Church in promoting citizenship and unity among all Egyptians.

The cabinet reviewed recent high-level diplomatic activities led by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, including discussions with the Saudi Foreign Minister. These discussions focused on enhancing bilateral coordination concerning regional crises and political consultation. The meeting was also dedicated to the president's directives to modernize Egypt's telecommunications industry. Madbouli stated, "The government is committed to expanding the localization of the telecommunications industry as part of a comprehensive national strategy."

Madbouli provided updates on his recent field tour in Luxor, where he inspected projects under the Decent Life (Haya Karima) initiative. The prime minister also praised the modernization of the SEMAF Railway Factory, noting that the facility is a cornerstone of Egypt's plan to localize transport manufacturing. This plan aims to boost the economy, conserve foreign currency, and open new avenues for export.

Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, presented the National Narrative for Economic and Social Development. The document, developed from two months of dialogue with over 100 economic experts, aims to align Egypt Vision 2030 with current global shifts.
