Planning Min: Housing Sector Among Key Drivers of Economic Growth in Egypt

Cairo: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom announced that the housing and urban development sector is crucial for economic growth in Egypt, emphasizing its role in infrastructure development, public service improvement, job creation, and quality of life enhancement.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Rostom's statements were made during a meeting with Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Randa el-Menshawy. The meeting focused on discussing the 2026/2027 fiscal year investment plan and the medium-term investment plan for 2026-2030. This gathering is part of ongoing coordination between the two ministries to optimize public investments and support Egypt Vision 2030.

Rostom highlighted Egypt's progress in recent years in providing adequate housing and developing basic infrastructure. The upcoming phase aims to maximize the economic and social returns of public investments by improving project management efficiency and adhering to set timelines. He noted that the Ministry of Housing has been successful in executing major projects, thus advancing urban development and boosting economic activity across governorates.

Menshawy revealed that the Ministry of Housing has prepared a proposal for the 2026-2030 medium-term investment plan. This plan includes programs aimed at meeting essential citizen needs, such as expanding access to suitable housing and enhancing water and sanitation services. The ministry is also working on urban development projects in new cities to attract investment and create jobs, transforming these areas into economic hubs.

Menshawy further stated that the ministry regularly monitors project implementation rates to ensure timelines are met, accelerating project completion and maximizing the benefits of state investments. The Ministry of Planning reviewed the main pillars of the Housing Ministry's investment plan, prioritizing projects that improve citizens' quality of life, including those under the Decent Life Initiative and various housing and urban development programs.
