Parliament Debates Legislation Regulating Children’s Use of Social Media

Cairo: The House of Representatives announced on Sunday, January 25, 2026, plans to introduce a legislation regulating children's use of social media networks. This initiative aims to establish guidelines and controls on how children engage with social media platforms.

According to State Information Service Egypt, this announcement was made in a statement issued by the House, highlighting the state's intention to draft a law specifically addressing children's use of social media. The proposed legislation follows the example of several countries that have implemented measures such as banning mobile phone use for children.

The House of Representatives commended the state's proactive approach in addressing the challenges facing Egyptian children. These challenges include psychological and behavioral risks associated with excessive social media use, which can lead to digital addiction. The statement emphasized the state's commitment to safeguarding children from such risks.

The House of Representatives is determined to proceed with all necessary steps, as outlined by the Constitution and executive parliamentary regulations, to study and enact the proposed legislation. This effort aims to establish structured guidelines to mitigate the digital chaos currently affecting children.
