Cairo: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindy departed Cairo on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, for New Delhi, India, on a three-day official visit to participate in the AI Impact Summit 2026.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the summit brings together a number of heads of state and government, alongside approximately 250,000 participants, including government officials, senior executives from leading global technology and AI companies, representatives of international organisations, investors, innovators, and researchers.
Hosted for the first time in a Global South country, the summit seeks to develop a shared roadmap for international AI governance and to strengthen global cooperation in harnessing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity. It aims to foster inclusive economic growth, promote social development, and advance human-centred innovation that safeguards the planet. The event also aspires to amplify the voice of Global South nations, ensuring a more equitable distribution of technological progress and the opportunities it creates.
The summit is structured around three core pillars - People, Planet, and Progress - and provides a platform for advancing multilateral initiatives, defining new global priorities, and establishing practical frameworks for cooperation. It seeks to move beyond policy dialogue toward concrete outcomes that deliver measurable impact in global AI collaboration.
Egypt's participation underscores the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's commitment to strengthening the country's presence in international platforms shaping the future of advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. It also reflects Egypt's growing role as an active partner in global AI governance discussions, especially as the Ministry serves as co-chair of the summit's AI Resources Democracy Working Group.
