Cairo: Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir inspected a ground subsidence site next to a building in the Masr el-Qadima area, which is located along the route of the first phase of the Fourth Metro Line (October / New Cairo) that connects the 6th of October area to Fustat Station in Masr El-Qadima. He directed immediate action to address the situation.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry of Transport stated that this inspection is part of its ongoing implementation of the first phase of the Fourth Metro Line by Egyptian companies. The project is under the supervision of a global consulting office and adheres to the highest technical, safety, and security standards.
The ministry explained that, due to the project's route passing near residential buildings in the Al Malik Al Saleh area, which have bearing walls aged between 60 to 70 years, a comprehensive survey of all these buildings was conducted. This assessment was aimed at evaluating their structural condition and classifying them according to approved technical procedures and precautionary plans before the commencement of the project.
A copy of the reports concerning the condition of the buildings was sent to the Cairo Governorate, as mentioned in the statement. The ministry also noted that a number of high-precision automatic sensors were installed to conduct periodic measurements around the clock. These sensors are crucial for monitoring any potential impact on these critical buildings during the execution of this national project.
