Interior Ministry Heightens Readiness for Approaching Severe Weather Wave

Cairo: Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik has directed all relevant sectors within the ministry to elevate their readiness levels to aid citizens in dealing with the anticipated severe weather conditions expected to hit several governorates in Egypt.According to State Information Service Egypt, a senior security source from the Ministry of Interior revealed that Tawfik stressed the importance of enhancing security presence along all major roads and highways. This move aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and provide necessary assistance to citizens amid the adverse weather conditions.The source further explained that since early morning, rescue vehicles, four-wheel-drive units, and traffic cranes have been strategically deployed on major roads across the nation. These measures are designed to clear any traffic disruptions and assist motorists whose vehicles may encounter issues.Coordination with relevant authorities is underway, with personnel and equipment prepared to minimize the impact of the severe w eather. The ministry is set to offer aid to citizens and respond promptly to any emergencies that arise.Drivers have been advised by the security source to exercise caution, especially during rainfall or periods of low visibility. They are urged to adhere to traffic instructions and avoid parking under trees, billboards, or near buildings that may not be structurally sound.Additionally, drivers should ensure their vehicles, particularly windshield wipers and brakes, are in optimal condition before traveling in these challenging weather conditions.The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has forecasted significant atmospheric instability on Wednesday and Thursday, with increased chances of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible hail in several governorates. The affected areas include Matrouh, Alexandria, Beheira, Kafr El Sheikh, Dakahlia, Damietta, Port Said, Gharbia, Monufia, and Sharqia. There is also a potential for flooding in parts of Sinai and the northern Red Sea governorates.The authority has also warned of active winds ranging from 40-50 km/h, which will exacerbate the cold weather. These winds may also stir sand and dust, reducing visibility to less than 1,000 meters in the Western Desert, southern regions, and the Red Sea governorate.
