FM Stresses Depth of Historic Relations Between Egypt and Ghana


Abuja: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed during a meeting with Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the depth of the historic relations binding the two countries and their brotherly peoples, which are based on the principles of mutual respect, cooperation, and the achievement of common interests.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the African Union Summit. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional and continental issues. Abdelatty praised the strong momentum in bilateral relations and mutual coordination at both political and economic levels, as demonstrated by the exchange of official visits between the two countries.



Abdelatty also acknowledged the significant role of the Ghanaian president within the African Union, particularly in his leadership on African financial institutions and historical reparations, as well as efforts to promote Africa’s financial and economic justice agenda. He emphasized the importance of increasing trade volume and joint investments to strengthen trade and investment ties in line with the aspirations of the two nations.



The foreign minister underscored the potential of Egyptian companies and the private sector in contributing to Ghana’s national development plans, especially in areas such as infrastructure, dams, energy, education, and agriculture. He highlighted the Accra-Kumasi road project, undertaken by an Egyptian company, as a prime example of such collaboration.



Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s willingness to share its expertise in the pharmaceutical industry and welcomed the idea of a Ghanaian delegation visiting Egypt to engage with Egyptian pharmaceutical companies. He also highlighted the successful completion of numerous projects by Egyptian companies in Ghana, emphasizing their strong reputation across Africa and expressing a desire for further participation in Ghana’s development efforts.



On regional security matters, Abdelatty stressed the importance of cooperation in combating terrorism and supporting the Sahel region. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach combining security and development to address terrorism, and expressed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Sahel countries in establishing stability.



The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on the latest developments in Africa and the importance of supporting efforts to consolidate peace, security, and sustainable development amidst regional challenges. Both ministers affirmed the need for ongoing coordination and consultation within bilateral and multilateral frameworks to serve shared interests and contribute to stability and development.
