Cairo: Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir engaged in discussions with Hungary's Minister of Transport and Investment D¡vid Vit©zy on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, focusing on enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Hungary across various transport sectors.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place at the Transport Ministry's headquarters in the New Capital, with the Hungarian ambassador to Egypt, Rita Vikt³ria Herencs¡r, and Deputy Transport Minister for Electric Traction and Railways, Wagdy Radwan, among other senior officials, in attendance. The discussions aimed at advancing existing railway collaborations and leveraging the expertise and capabilities of both nations to improve public transport and green transport systems.
During the talks, Wazir emphasized the strong ties between Egypt and Hungary, highlighting Egypt's interest in expanding cooperation, particularly in the railway sector. Post-discussion, the ministers traveled using ACTA mass transit buses from the Transport Ministry to the Government District station of the East Nile Monorail, where Wazir showcased the New Capital as a model of modern urban planning integrated with an advanced transport system.
The minister elaborated on the comprehensive transport network established to serve the New Capital, which includes the Light Rail Transit (LRT), East Nile Monorail, ACTA buses, and the Capital Taxi service. This network ensures seamless connectivity between the New Capital and surrounding areas.
In their inspection of the Government District station, the ministers reviewed the East Nile Monorail's critical role in serving government visitors and connecting the New Capital with New Cairo and Nasr City. The monorail's interchange with Cairo Metro Line 3 at Cairo Stadium station further integrates with the West Nile Monorail, forming an efficient network of transport services for urban and development areas.
Vit©zy, accompanied by Radwan, later experienced the East Nile Monorail firsthand, traveling to Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque station. He expressed appreciation for the innovative transport solutions in Egypt and the New Capital's impressive development, emphasizing Hungary's eagerness to exchange expertise with Egypt.
