Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty hosted an iftar banquet on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, for heads of media institutions, editors-in-chief, prominent intellectuals, and accredited journalists. This event was part of the ministry's efforts to maintain regular engagement with the media.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized the ministry's dedication to fostering continuous and constructive communication with media institutions. This initiative aims to support national interests and reinforce Egypt's regional and international standing. He acknowledged the vital role of the Egyptian media, especially during the current critical and sensitive stage facing the region.
During the event, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's key diplomatic efforts in addressing regional challenges, highlighting the country's pivotal role in supporting regional and international security and stability. The discussions encompassed major regional developments, including Abdelatty's recent Gulf tour, which involved visiting five countries under presidential directives.
The tour underscored Egypt's full solidarity-with its leadership, government, and people-toward Gulf States and Jordan, reflecting strong fraternal and historical ties. Abdelatty condemned Iranian attacks targeting Arab territories, stressing that any infringement on Arab sovereignty constitutes a direct threat to Egyptian and Arab national security. He warned of the serious repercussions of ongoing military escalation and called for de-escalation through diplomacy and dialogue to prevent widespread regional chaos. He also emphasized the need for post-war regional arrangements to safeguard Arab national security.
On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing the importance of supporting early recovery, reconstruction, and improved living conditions. He called for empowering the national committee for Gaza administration to manage the transitional phase, leading to full Palestinian Authority control over Gaza and the West Bank.
Regarding Lebanon, he condemned repeated Israeli attacks and violations, reaffirming support for Lebanese sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity while urging an immediate halt to violations. On Sudan, Abdelatty stressed Egypt's rejection of any actions undermining Sudanese unity or territorial integrity, calling for a humanitarian truce, protection of national institutions, and intensified international support for aid delivery.
The minister concluded with an interactive discussion, underlining the media's critical role in raising public awareness, presenting accurate information, and countering misinformation to protect national interests.
