Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised Spain's positions in support of Egypt within the European Union. During a meeting with Spanish counterpart Jos© Manuel Albares on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Abdelatty expressed his anticipation for continued support at various European institutions. This is especially significant given the two countries' shared stance on ending conflicts and establishing regional security and stability.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty welcomed the current visit of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain to Egypt, which underscores the deeply rooted ties between the two nations. He also acknowledged the bilateral cooperation in investment, notably highlighting the contributions of Spanish companies in energy and green hydrogen projects in Egypt.
Abdelatty emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in areas such as tourism, education, and the fight against illegal migration and terrorism. He briefed the Spanish foreign minister on the results of the Emergency Arab-Islamic summit held in Doha earlier this week, reiterating Egypt's firm opposition to Israel's violation of a sisterly Arab country's sovereignty.
Furthermore, Abdelatty condemned Israel's ongoing actions against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, particularly the recent illegal ground invasion. He pointed out that this invasion threatens regional security and called for the international community to oppose Israel's policies of siege, starvation, settlement expansion, and displacement attempts.
Abdelatty stressed the necessity of a comprehensive and just settlement to achieve peace, advocating for a two-state solution that establishes an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He applauded Spain's principled positions supporting the Palestinian cause, including Spain's recent decisions in reaction to Israel's aggression and the systematic killing of civilians in Gaza.
