Johannesburg: Egypt is actively pursuing stronger economic and trade relations with Canada, as expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty. On November 23, 2025, Abdelatty emphasized Cairo's intent to attract Canadian investment, particularly in the energy, agriculture, and water resources sectors, during a meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand at the G20 meetings in Johannesburg.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's appreciation for the existing relations between the two nations and detailed the steps Egypt has undertaken to enhance the private sector and improve the business climate. He stressed the importance of leveraging the progress achieved during the 12th round of political consultations, which saw an Egyptian business delegation visit Ottawa in April.
Additionally, Abdelatty addressed Egypt's stance on developments in Gaza, reaffirming Cairo's commitment to the Sharm El Sheikh agreement. He noted Egypt's collaboration with the United States and other partners to further the agreement's second phase, aiming for a sustainable resolution through a two-state solution. Abdelatty also extended an invitation to Anand to attend a conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, commending Canada's recent recognition of the State of Palestine in September.
