Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Jean-No«l Barrot, the French Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit to discuss the latest developments in the region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Tamim Khlaaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the discussions focused on Lebanon, where Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance against any infringement on Lebanon's sovereignty and emphasized support for Lebanon's national institutions in maintaining the country's security and stability. The talks also stressed the importance of regional and international efforts to prevent escalation and protect Lebanese sovereignty.
The spokesperson highlighted that Abdelatty praised France's support on the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the need for the timely implementation of the recent UN Security Council resolution concerning Gaza and the role of the international stabilization force. Abdelatty also looked forward to France's participation in the upcoming International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, to be hosted by Egypt.
Concerning Sudan, the Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt's support for Sudan's unity and territorial integrity and rejected any attempts to destabilize the nation. He called for international efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery. Furthermore, he reviewed Egypt's role within the Quadruple Mechanism to promote de-escalation and peace.
Additionally, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts concerning the Iranian nuclear issue, urging for a comprehensive agreement that considers all parties' interests and enhances regional security.
On bilateral relations, both ministers praised the strengthening ties between Egypt and France, highlighting the growing trade exchange and cooperation in various fields, including economy, trade, investment, development, culture, and education.
