Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received phone calls from his counterparts Jean-Noël Barrot of France, Giorgos Gerapetritis of Greece, Konstantinos Kombos of Cyprus and Fuad Hussein of Iraq to discuss the escalating developments in the region following Israeli airstrikes on several sites inside Iran at dawn on Friday 13/6/2025.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement issued by the foreign ministry’s spokesperson, Tamim Khallaf, Abdelatty emphasized during the calls that the Israeli strikes represent a serious escalation and a blatant violation of international law. He underscored the critical importance of de-escalating tensions and reducing hostilities, reiterating that military solutions are not viable for regional crises. He also stressed the need for respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international legal frameworks.
The top diplomat further noted that the unprovoked Israeli strikes on Iran open the door
to the potential expansion of conflict in the region, which the international community must work to avoid in order to safeguard the security and stability of the area.
The ministers agreed to continue coordinating and consulting closely on the situation and to intensify joint efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing the region from sliding into widespread chaos.
