FM Calls for Diplomatic Solutions to Regional Crises

Ljubljana: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Friday that promoting diplomatic solutions is the most effective way to resolve regional crises. He reaffirmed his full support for US President Donald Trump, his leadership, and his peace plans, underlining the United States' role as a key guarantor in de-escalation efforts and reinforcing the current ceasefire.

According to State Information Service Egypt, speaking at a press conference with his counterparts during the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee on Gaza in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Abdelatty praised Slovenia's diplomatic efforts in support of the Palestinian people and its commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and humanitarian law. He noted that the Middle East and Europe are facing challenging times, with numerous crises, including the Palestinian issue, Israeli aggression, and the situations in Libya and Sudan, the latter described as the world's largest humanitarian crisis, where millions are at risk of famine.

He also underlined ongoing crises in Syria, Lebanon, and Africa. Regarding Europe, Abdelatty acknowledged the continent is grappling with multiple challenges and expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Regarding the situation in the Palestinian lands, the foreign minister described the situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as highly fragile and rapidly deteriorating amid escalating tensions and Israeli military actions in the West Bank. He reaffirmed Egypt's full support for US President Donald Trump, his leadership, and his peace initiatives, underlining the United States' role as a key guarantor in de-escalation efforts and in maintaining the current ceasefire.

Abdelatty noted some limited progress with the partial reopening of the Rafah crossing from both sides. However, he stressed that Israeli restrictions continue to hinder the movement of Palestinian civilians and impede the delivery of humanitarian aid, highlighting the urgent need for intensified efforts to address the humanitarian crisis.

He described the formation of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza as a significant development, providing a temporary governance framework until the Palestinian Authority assumes full control. The committee ensures continuity and connectivity between Gaza and the West Bank, which together constitute the future Palestinian state.

Abdelatty warned that continued Israeli military violations are severely undermining efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza. Abdelatty said that substantial obstacles continue to hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid and medical assistance to the Gaza Strip. He also underlined challenges in allowing patients who left Gaza for medical treatment to return, as well as facilitating access for those seeking care outside the Strip.

Speaking at a press conference with his counterparts at the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee on Gaza, held in Slovenia, Abdelatty said, "Our current focus is on the ceasefire, in line with the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement signed during the October 2025 summit. We are coordinating closely with regional partners, as well as with the European Union and the United States."

The minister stressed that attention should now be given to advancing humanitarian efforts, delivering additional aid, and implementing relief projects, noting that the situation in Gaza remains dire and that citizens continue to require shelter and basic necessities. He underlined the critical importance of preserving the link between Gaza and the West Bank, warning that any attempts to divide the Strip will not be permitted.

Abdelatty highlighted that while immediate crisis management is essential, it should be linked to a political framework aimed at establishing a Palestinian state comprising the West Bank, Gaza, and Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem), based on the June 4, 1967 borders. "Without this, there can be no lasting peace or stability for Israel or the whole region," he said.

Regarding Iran, the minister noted that Egypt is working to prevent conflict and reduce regional tensions, describing de-escalation as a top priority for both Egypt and other Arab states. He made it clear that diplomatic solutions remain the most effective means of resolving regional crises.
