FM Calls for Crystalizing Overall Vision for Regional Security

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty called for crystalizing an overall and new vision for regional security in collaboration with regional and international parties. He also underlined the priority of Arab national security and urged for activating the joint Arab defense pace and establishing a joint Arab force, describing this move as the only guarantee for safeguarding the security and sovereignty of Arab states in the face of existing threats.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the top diplomat made the remarks during a series of phone calls with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, and Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The phone conversations between the top Egyptian diplomat and the aforementioned ministers focused on the serious military escalation in the region.

During the calls, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's condemnation of Iran's attacks on Arab states, including the recent drone attack on the Port of Salalah in Oman, expressing Egypt's complete rejection of the continuation of such Iranian attacks. He stressed the need to immediately halt such actions, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law and threaten regional stability, underlining the need for full adherence to the principles of good neighborliness and respect for the sovereignty of Gulf states.

The Egyptian foreign minister also welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 calling for a halt to Iranian attacks, noting that Egypt was among the first sponsors of the resolution. He said the resolution clearly rejects the targeting of civilians and vital infrastructure, denouncing such acts as violations of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security.

The ministers agreed that diplomacy remains the only viable path to contain the escalating situation, stressing the need to intensify contacts, initiatives, and diplomatic endeavors to bring the war to an end through continued engagement with all relevant parties. Abdelatty affirmed that Cairo would continue its efforts, in coordination with regional and international partners, to end the war as soon as possible, given the severe economic, security, political, and geostrategic repercussions of the conflict.

They also agreed that the continued escalation and its widening scope pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security, warning that all parties ultimately stand to lose if the conflict continues.
