Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has emphasized the importance of maintaining the unity of Palestinian territories and rejecting any attempts to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank or to fragment Gaza itself. This statement was made during a meeting with Rawhi Fattouh, Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, and Azzam al-Ahmad, Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), as part of ongoing consultations regarding the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital, in line with international legitimacy resolutions. He highlighted that achieving a ceasefire in Gaza is a crucial initi
al step towards a sustainable truce.
Abdelatty also affirmed Egypt’s dedication to ensuring security and peace in the region, preventing further military escalation in Gaza, and guaranteeing the continuous and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid. He expressed support for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, led by Ali Shaath, as a temporary framework to manage the enclave’s daily affairs and address the basic needs of its residents.
These efforts aim to stabilize conditions during the interim period, facilitating the Palestinian Authority’s full resumption of responsibilities in Gaza, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The minister also reiterated Egypt’s support for establishing and deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, ensure humanitarian aid delivery, and oversee Israel’s withdrawal from controlled areas within the enclave.
Abdelatty condemned ongoing Israeli actions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, particularly recent measure
s by the Israeli government that he described as an illegal annexation scheme. These include changes to land registration and administration, seizure of Palestinian property, transfer of municipal powers in Hebron to Israeli forces, demolition of Palestinian buildings, settlement expansion, land confiscation, and tolerance of settler violence.
In response, Fattouh and Ahmad praised Egypt’s historic role in supporting the Palestinian cause. They acknowledged the efforts made by Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s leadership, to strengthen the Gaza ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid, and support the resilience of the Palestinian people.
