The Hague: Egypt's General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) and the Egyptian Embassy in the Hague recently convened a roundtable with 30 Dutch companies to explore investment opportunities in Egypt's waste management and recycling sector, as announced by GAFI.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was held alongside the World Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition in the Netherlands, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation in environmental sustainability and green industries. GAFI CEO Hossam Heiba, who participated virtually, presented Egypt's investment climate and incentives, emphasizing opportunities in the recycling sector outlined in Egypt's national investment map. He reiterated the government's commitment to attracting private capital to waste management, noting the sector's significant economic and environmental impact.
Dutch development finance institution Invest International expressed support for companies interested in entering Egypt's recycling market. Director Michiel Slootweg highlighted that Dutch firms possess the expertise needed to positively influence Egypt's renewable energy and waste ecosystems. Additionally, Thomas Marinelli, Head of Sustainable Innovation and Design at Dutch lighting company Signify, discussed the firm's sustainability solutions and confirmed plans to expand environmental investments in Egypt.
Representatives from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), the Egyptian Cabinet, and GAFI's Dutch investment unit also took part in the discussions.
