Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's resilience and leadership vision as key contributors to the nation's stability and development amid regional conflicts. The minister made these remarks during the annual ceremony of the Kemet Boutros Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge, where awards were distributed to students of Cairo University's Faculty of Economics and Political Science. The event was attended by Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit, former ministers, diplomats, and members of parliament.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized that the Egyptian state's resilience, political leadership vision, institutional effectiveness, and the unity and awareness of the Egyptian people have not only secured national stability but also fostered development and economic progress. The minister also reiterated Egypt's influential role in regional and international peace efforts. He discussed the exceptional challenges and opportunities posed by technological advancements, cyber security, social gaps, and climate change, indicating the government's responsibility to achieve sustainable development in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
Abdelatty praised Mamdouh Abbas, chairman of the Kemet Foundation, for his dedication to youth education and preparation for future challenges. He honored the legacy of Dr. Boutros Ghali, lauding his contributions to Egyptian and international diplomacy, particularly his role in negotiating peace terms after the 1973 victory and his efforts in strengthening Egyptian-African relations. The minister also noted Boutros Ghali's historic positions as Secretary-General of the UN and the Francophonie.
The minister highlighted Egypt's cultural and historical significance, referencing the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and its role in underscoring Egypt's soft power and cultural contributions to global civilization. He mentioned the international recognition of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's leadership and Egypt's enduring influence over thousands of years.
Abdelatty cited Boutros Ghali's assertion that peace in the Middle East depends on Palestinian self-determination, criticizing Israel's actions in Gaza and emphasizing coordinated efforts with allies, especially the United States, to resolve the humanitarian crisis and pursue a comprehensive political solution since the Sharm El-Sheikh summit.
