Egyptian and Tunisian Foreign Ministers Emphasize Libya’s Unity and Institutional Support

Addis ababa: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti, emphasizing the importance of preserving Libya's unity and territorial integrity while supporting state institutions.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Ethiopia's Addis Ababa. The ministers agreed to continue coordination within the trilateral framework involving Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. Their focus includes unifying Libya's institutions and ensuring the withdrawal of all foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries, alongside creating conditions suitable for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya.

Abdelatty praised the historical relations between Egypt and Tunisia, noting the mutual interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation to benefit both countries and improve joint Arab and African integration. He highlighted the successful 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee in Cairo in September 2025, which yielded positive outcomes, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors.

He emphasized the importance of the joint economic forum held during the committee's meeting, stressing the necessity to follow up on its outcomes to further elevate bilateral relations. Abdelatty also mentioned his recent visit to Tunisia, where productive meetings underscored a shared political will to strengthen coordination and consultation at all levels.

The ministers also discussed regional issues of common interest, affirming the need to reduce regional tensions and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions to enhance security and stability. They stressed the significance of ongoing coordination within the African Union to support peace, security, and development efforts across the continent, reinforcing the role of African institutions in addressing current challenges.
