Egyptian and Djiboutian Foreign Ministers Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Regional Issues

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty, engaged in a phone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Djibouti, Abdelkader Hussein Omar, to explore strategies for enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging perspectives on significant regional developments.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the profound nature of the Egyptian-Djiboutian relationship, commending the current positive trajectory of ties between the nations. He underscored the shared commitment to broadening cooperation frameworks that serve mutual interests, pointing out the necessity of bolstering economic, trade, and investment collaboration to benefit both countries' populations.

Minister Abdelatty highlighted the significance of increasing trade exchange and supporting mutual investments, advocating for Egyptian companies to seize opportunities in the Djiboutian market, particularly in infrastructure, logistics zones, energy, agriculture, and industry sectors. He reiterated the importance of ongoing coordination to implement joint projects, reflecting Egypt's dedication to reinforcing trade relations between the two nations.

Addressing the situation in the Horn of Africa, Minister Abdelatty stressed the need to maintain the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states, avoiding interference in their internal affairs. He affirmed Egypt's complete rejection of Israel's recognition of 'Somaliland,' expressing unequivocal support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

He opposed any unilateral actions jeopardizing Somali sovereignty or destabilizing the country, considering such actions a breach of international law and a threat to the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region stability, while affirming support for Somalia's legitimate state institutions.

The ministers exchanged views on overall developments in the Horn of Africa, underlining the importance of sustained coordination and consultation between Egypt and Djibouti in addressing regional challenges. They noted that such cooperation would bolster efforts to achieve peace, security, and stability, strengthening joint African action, especially given the close connection between Red Sea security and Horn of Africa stability.
