Accra: Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana Wael Fathi attended the handover of a medical aid shipment for Hepatitis C treatment, provided by Egypt to the Ghanaian Ministry of Health. The event marked a significant step in the ongoing cooperation between the two nations in the healthcare sector.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the event was also attended by Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Health, representatives of the Ghanaian Parliament, medical officials, representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), and local media outlets. Ambassador Fathi highlighted President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative to combat Hepatitis C, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to supporting African countries in their fight against the virus. This support comes after Egypt became the first country in the world to eliminate the virus, a milestone recognized by WHO.
The ambassador also reviewed the growing cooperation between Egypt and Ghana, pointing out the mutual political will to advance bilateral relations, in light of the long-standing historical ties between the two countries. For her part, Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Health praised Egypt’s ongoing medical assistance and support in the fight against Hepatitis C, a significant health issue in Ghana. She commended Egypt’s broader health cooperation programs aimed at strengthening Ghana’s national healthcare capacity.
The latest shipment is the third consecutive delivery of medical aid from Egypt, the Ghanaian official said, noting that the aid underscores Egypt’s unwavering support for African nations, which is widely appreciated by both the Ghanaian leadership and its people.
