Egypt Prioritizes Urban Development and Housing Under Vision 2030

Cairo: Minister of Housing Randa el Menshawy affirmed that Egypt places urban development and adequate housing among its top priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030. Speaking on her behalf at the 2026 Arab Forum for Sustainable Development organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, Assistant Minister Amr Khattab said Egypt has achieved major progress in sustainable urban development since 2014, despite economic and demographic challenges.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the state expanded inhabited areas from 7% to 14% through infrastructure projects, fourth-generation cities, and smart communities. He added that nearly 1.96 million housing units have been provided since 2014, including more than one million affordable units for low- and middle-income citizens.

Khattab also highlighted efforts to redevelop unsafe areas through projects such as Al Asmarat and Fustat Gardens, in addition to the role of the presidential 'Decent Life' initiative in improving living conditions in over 4,500 villages.

He further highlighted improvements in utility services, with safe drinking water coverage reaching 99% and sanitation coverage rising to 70% by 2025.
