Cairo: Egypt welcomed Ireland's approval of legislation banning the import of goods originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and the completion of the constitutional and legislative procedures required for the measure to become law.According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday, July 26, 2026, Egypt described the move as an important step that reflects adherence to international law and international legitimacy resolutions and confirms rejection of illegal Israeli settlement activities that violate the rights of the Palestinian people and undermine prospects for a just and lasting peace.Egypt renewed its call on European Union member states and the wider international community to adopt similar legal and practical measures to ensure that no direct or indirect support is provided to illegal settlements or their continued expansion.The statement also reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast support for the legitimate and inalie nable rights of the Palestinian people, stressing that achieving security and stability in the Middle East requires ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
