Egypt PM Chairs Meeting on GEM Opening

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired a meeting of the supreme committee responsible for organizing the inauguration ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir, along with other senior officials. Madbouli emphasized that the meeting’s purpose was to review the final preparations for the inauguration ceremony and ensure that all arrangements are in place. He highlighted the importance of ongoing field visits to monitor every detail on the ground.

Madbouli expressed his commitment to closely overseeing the museum’s inauguration preparations, focusing on executive and logistical arrangements, guest reception protocols, security measures, and transportation logistics from guests’ accommodations to the museum. During the meeting, Wazir presented a report detailing the progress of projects spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport in the museum’s vicinity.

Wazir also provided an update on the development of the Cairo Ring Road, which spans 110 kilometers, and discussed the implementation status of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The BRT project, which has undergone pilot operations in some areas, includes 48 stations across Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubia governorates.

Additionally, Wazir reviewed the progress of the first stage of the fourth metro line, which will serve the Grand Egyptian Museum. This stage, comprising 17 stations, will connect the 6th of October City with New Cairo, passing through the Giza Plateau and the museum.
